Circomedia launches Degree course

This year Circomedia will, for the first time, be offering a two year foundation degree in Contemporary Circus and Physical Performance, subject to validation .  This is a major step forward for circus arts in the UK and will mean that students will have full access to a range of funding options.  Until now students on Circomedia's one year course have had to fund themselves.  This new course will build on Circomedia's previous one year course which is renowned for its breadth and focus on circus arts in conjunction with physical theatre and performance techniques.  On completion, successful students will have explored a full range of circus skills and performance techniques and be confident in devising new work and promoting and marketing their work.  The degree is being run in partnership with Bath Spa University ...link


It's time for a trophy cabinet!

Continuing our run of prizes, Circomedia’s St Paul’s site has won a prestigious Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors award in the Community Benefit category.

After winning the South West regional heats, the church was put forward for the national awards held in London in October.  Circomedia’s Helen Crocker, along with Crispin Truman, the CEO of the Churches Conservation Trust and Jonathan Graham, a rigging specialist involved with the redevelopment of the church into a circus centre, all attended the ceremony where the award was presented by Channel 4’s Kevin McCloud.  ...read more


Bon voyage - Circomedia students are off to French training school

Three Circomedia students have been accepted by prestigious French circus school, L’Ecole Nationale des Arts du Cirque de Rosny-sous-Bois. 

Reuben Hosler, Sam Charlton and Dorothy Hatcher are all graduates of Circomedia's BTEC National Diploma, with Reuben and Sam also having completed the One Year Diploma. ...read more


Cafe at the circus!

Circomedia is delighted to be adding to Bristol’s café culture for a strictly limited time. The Church in Portland Square will undergo another chameleon-like transformation and become Bristol’s coolest café.  The café will make its appearance for one week only from 6th -10th August.  Offering a range of fair-trade and organic goodies the café will also feature a selection of new circus and street entertainment to amuse and delight diners. 

 

Café at the Circus will be a continental style outdoor café hosted in the grassy area at the front of the building.  As well as impromptu circus performances there will be an exhibition of work by local artists displayed on the railings. In the event of inclement weather, tables will also be available inside the building.
